Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD)

Generalized anxiety disorder can be best described as excessive, often daily, nervousness and worry lasting 6 months or longer that can be brought on by numerous activities or events.

This is the most common of the seven anxiety disorder affecting approximately 3% of the population in any given year. Females are twice as likely to carry the burden of GAD. This condition often begins in childhood or the pre teen years but may begin at any age. For most people, the disorder fluctuates a great deal and many linger for many years.

While the above definition may seem a little scary Generalized Anxiety Disorder is the least problematic of the seven anxiety disorders. While the 3% number listed above may not seem that impressive at first glance, GAD affects more people worldwide than any other anxiety disorder. So, if you or someone you know has it you are not alone. Realistic worries don't mean you have the condition. For example, if you are in a band and you have lost your big gig and worry about finding another gig, that's not GAD - it's a real life problem. On the other hand if your name is Paul McCartney and you are worried sick about finding a place to play your music, you just might have GAD!

Let's take a look at a few symptoms that if experienced daily for the last six months might be an indication of Generalized Anxiety Disorder.

*Worry clings to you like the proverbial monkey on your back despite your best efforts to get him off.
*You feel restless, edgy, irritable, fidgety, or jacked up
*You get fatigued easy
*Concentration is a problem
*You are experiencing unpredictable sleep patterns
*Muscle tenseness, especially in your shoulders, neck, or back

Anxiety is a condition with many different faces and not everyone experiences it in the same way. For this reason your best bet in confirming a diagnosis is with the help of a professional.

Note: Other, symptoms that could be associated with Generalized Anxiety Disorder are excessive perspiration, shortness of breath, twitching, trembling, dry mouth, upset stomach, unexplained trembling, difficulty swallowing, and being startled easily.

Additionally, there are many different types of treatment available for GAD such as prescription medication and/or behavioral therapy. Another popular form of treatment, that many natural health minded individuals are throwing in their toolbox, are herbal remedies for mild to moderate anxiety. Herbal remedies for anxiety have shown to be very effective in supporting both emotional and mental health and are an affordable option worth considering.

Chelation Treatment - Weighing Your Child's Safety When Considering the Risk of Chelation Treatment

Chelation treatment is a therapy where the body is purged of toxins that may have caused autism. Some people feel, though research does not support this belief, that the mercury in childhood vaccinations is a contributing factor in the increased cases of autism. They believe also that children with autism somehow wind up with too much toxic heavy metal in their systems and that this metal has detrimental effects on the child's brain. Supporters of this chelation treatment claim that not only is the mercury from childhood vaccinations an issue but so are the metals in foods and the environment. The feeling is that other children are able to rid themselves of his metal whereas children who develop autism are unable to purge their bodies of the toxins and so need help to do so. This is where chelation therapy comes into the equation.

Chelation therapy is the use of an amino acid, often EDTA (ethylene diamine tetra acetic), which can attach itself to the toxic metal in the child's system. It is put into the body through intravenous means and then flushed out through urine taking the toxins with it. Other similar treatments are given by using nasal sprays or creams that are absorbed into the skin.

This chelation treatment has been recognized as being useful for a variety of conditions including Parkinson's, Schizophrenia, Cancer and Alzheimer's. But, the FDA, Food and Drug Administration, does not recognize it as a treatment for autism. Chelation treatment is only when tests prove that there has been contamination of the patient by toxic metals. It especially is not recognized as a treatment for children with autism.

Despite researchers coming out against this therapy desperate parents are willing to try anything to cure their children of the incurable disorder of autism. One such attempt met with disastrous results last year. Recently an autistic child, who was only five years old, was undergoing repeated chelation therapy and on the third treatment session, in his doctor's office, he died.

This news was received with great sadness by the community, but was used as a caution to other parents anxious to try anything possible to help their children. Those in the know in the autism community, professionals who follow these experimental treatments, had sadly expected an outcome like this to occur. It is being used as a warning to parents. While it's understood that they want to try everything they can to help their children caution must be taken, not all treatments available are actually safe to use on children. Parents must allow researchers the opportunities to fully investigate alternatives before rushing in desperation to attempt unproven treatments.

If you think that there is "something not right" with your child you must find out as soon as possible if autism is the issue. Cure For Panic Attacks - Here Are Some Amazing Tips You Need to Know If You Ever Had Anxiety Attacks

The real cure for panic attack isn't taking medication, or avoiding the "triggers" of the attack. Panic attacks are just like any psychological obstacles. Unless you learn to understand them and to turn them around, they'll keep on coming back. One out of every 75 people in the world actually experience serious panic attacks at any one point of their lives. Surprisingly enough, although this occurs pretty frequently in a lot of people, very few really know how to deal with it.

What is panic?

The best definition for panic is the sensation of fear for apparently not-so-dangerous things. In other words, it's an overreaction to something that's unpleasant, like a coming deadline, or a presentation in front of half of the company, or the thought of having to travel alone for the first time. In other words, it starts off as a natural unease about things that are most likely unfamiliar, until it snowballs into an unrealistic and uncalled for fear.

Nervousness vs. panic attacks

It's completely normal to feel anxious or nervous about being a part of a play for the first time and delivering your lines in front of so many people. It's possible that you can even forget your lines. However, people usually recover from the first onset of shaking knees and racing heartbeats.

It only actually turns into a panic attack when you start to fear the panic attack itself. Since you begin worrying about your body's reaction to "the jitters", everything becomes a vicious cycle, and you may be hyperventilating for five to ten minutes unless you get a hold of your thoughts as soon as possible.

Dealing with panic

You can't restrain a panic attack when you try to "get away" from it. Most of the time, thoughts of running away from your situation only worsens your panic attack. The best cure for panic attack is confrontation. And yes, as crazy as this may seem, we mean a confrontation with your own thoughts.

When you're experiencing a panic attack, you need to try and regain your breathing first. It's pretty hard to control your thoughts again when you're out of breath. While you're doing this, you need to focus your energies into trying to identify the one thought or idea that made you panic in the first place. Once you've done that, you should try hard not to panic again. Instead, examine the thought, and talk yourself out of believing it. Thoughts can't cause you to panic unless you believe them, and most panic triggers are exaggerated and unreal.

Talk to yourself and make yourself realize that you're not really in any real danger. Sometimes, we think strange thoughts because we lack sleep, or we're stressed out. If you've been taking too much coffee or sugar for the past few days, your panic attack could be caused by your diet.

Try to lead a more balanced life if this is the case, and don't be ashamed of seeing a therapist if your panic attacks happen again. Most insurance cover treatments for panic attack. You shouldn't hesitate to have this treated especially when your recurring panic attacks are already affecting your career.

Areas Where Women Are Getting Laser Hair Removal

Permanent hair removal by laser treatments have been around for a while. Many women are discovering exactly what med spas have to offer. The experience can be pleasant and relaxing, and you will feel pampered every step of the way.

Wherever there is unwanted hair, there is a laser designed to remove it. Facial hair, especially for women who are older or have darker hair can be embarrassing. Hair on the upper lips or jowls is not feminine. Neither is hair protruding from moles. Instead of hours of painful plucking, going for a relaxing time at the spa sounds a whole lot better.

Speaking of plucking - what about the eye brows? Wouldn't it be great to never have to go through that pain again. Having your eyebrows shaped professionally at a salon can get costly. While the initial cost of laser hair removal may sound expensive, if you think about it, it really isn't if you think of all the time you would spend for the rest of your life plucking.

But women are not just removing the hairs from their faces. Underarm hair removal is growing in popularity. No more irritation or stubble. No more shaving. You will be surprised at the reduction of odor under your arms and that you may perspire less as well. Odor causing bacteria can hide in the follicles, especially when we sweat. As a result, hair roots can become irritated and even infected. Laser treatments reduce ingrown hairs and bumps shaving can leave behind.

Speaking of shaving, what about your legs? Think how wonderful it would be, especially in summer, not to have to worry about unsightly stubble. No more razor break-outs. No more waxing or creams. Sounds too good to be true. But it can be in just a few short sessions. It takes several hours to laser both legs and several sessions over a six to eight week period to achieve true permanent hair loss. But, it really is almost painless. Many women are surprised at that, especially after years of putting up with the pain of plucking and waxing.

Hair on the toes, the forearms and fingers can also be easily removed with laser treatments. Actually, wherever you do not want hair, a clinician can give you laser treatments.

Bikini line hair removal is very popular among the younger crowd. One known as the Brazilian bikini laser removal which removes hair around the most sensitive areas, reduces odor, improves hygiene and can according to many women, improve the sensation of sexual experiences. Hair removal in that area can reduce the spread of STD's. It is definitely safer to laser remove pubic hairs than to try and shave or pluck them. It may be embarrassing to think about it, but a professional med spa clinician is used to assisting women in this area of hair removal. You will be guaranteed total privacy during the procedure.

If you have any skin condition or are prone to bruising easily, have a history of abnormal scarring or any other medical problems, be sure to discuss hair removal by laser with your family doctor and the med spa clinician before beginning any treatments. But mostly, side effects are minimal. There may be a pigment color change in the skin, especially if you are fair skinned or a redhead. Sun block creams are a good idea. The main factors to consider is your hair growth cycle, your age and how much the area will be exposed to the sun's rays. All of these can be discussed with your clinician.

Women with lighter skin are some of the best candidates for laser hair removal. Because their hair is less coarse, they usually take fewer sessions. Medium and dark skinned candidates will take more treatments and may not see as great of a result, but it will be worth it. Our experts know how to remove the hair safely and efficiently. You will be surprised how good you will look and feel. It just may take a few more times due to the pigment of your skin and the coarseness of your hair.

On the other hand, women with fair, fine hair are the most difficult to treat with laser removal simply because the hair is harder to see. It will take more time to remove. Medium dark and darker haired candidates find the hair removal process quicker. It just really depends on your hair type, skin type and your age. If you get laser hair treatments when you are younger, you may have to have them repeated as you grow older and your hormone levels change.

Even so, most women find laser removal worth the trips, worth the cost and definitely worth the convenience of no more shaving, waxing or stripping hair.
